Achlia is a little settlement in a lush cove with clear water and white sand.

There are a few rooms and a taverna, and the atmosphere is very peaceful. The coast around Achlia has many small coves to explore, including Tis Grias to Pidima.

Achlia lies on the south coast about 18 km east of Ierapetra, between Agia Fotia and Galini. The village is small, with a few rooms, tavernas and banana and vegetable greenhouses in the valley. The coast around it is full of small coves, and the water is very clear. It's a peaceful place for a quiet holiday.

Ierapetra is the southernmost town in Europe, and the area around it is known for its greenhouses, which produce vegetables for all of Greece. The coast stretches east to Makrigialos and west to Myrtos, with long beaches, small coves and a warm climate that allows swimming from April to November. Boats leave Ierapetra for Chrissi island, with its cedar forest and white sand. Inland, the Sarakina and Ha gorges and the Selakano forest offer cool escapes.

Lasithi, the eastern end of Crete, is quieter and greener than you might expect.
