Αμμουδιές · Άγιος Νικόλαος
Sheltered sandy bays on the Mirabello gulf, between Agios Nikolaos and Ierapetra.
Istron has three sheltered bays, each with its own beach, around the village of the same name. The middle one is sandy and organised with calm water, perfect for families.
Istron lies on the Mirabello gulf about 12 km south of Agios Nikolaos, where the mountains come down to the sea in a series of small bays. The village is quiet, with a few hotels, tavernas and rooms, and it makes a calm base for exploring eastern Crete.
The bays are sheltered from the wind and have clear, calm water. The best known is Voulisma, the Golden Beach, with fine white sand. Nearby, the Minoan town of Gournia and the painted church of Panagia Kera at Kritsa are both worth a visit.
Lasithi, the eastern end of Crete, is quieter and greener than you might expect. Agios Nikolaos wraps around a small lake and a lively harbour, with cafés on the water and beaches within walking distance. Just north, Elounda and Plaka look across to the fortress island of Spinalonga, one of the most moving places on the island. Περισσότερα για Λασίθι
