Σχετικά

A narrow rocky fjord with a little bridge, near Plakias.

Kalypso (also Karavos) lies in a long narrow inlet called the Pirate Fjord. There is no sand, just rocks and sunbeds, but the deep clear water and the bridge across the inlet make it very special.

The Pirate Fjord, as locals call it, is a long narrow inlet cut deep into the rocks near Plakias. A small stone bridge crosses the water, and the sides are lined with sunbeds and little terraces, part of a hotel that was built here decades ago. In the past the inlet was supposedly used by pirates to hide their boats.

It's not a classic beach, since there's no sand, but the water inside the fjord is deep, clear and sheltered, and swimming between the rock walls feels special. Bring a mask, as there are lots of fish along the rocks. Visitors pay for sunbeds or a drink at the bar.

Rethymno sits between the mountains and two seas, and it is the easiest region to combine with the rest of the island. Its old town and Fortezza are among the best preserved on Crete, with Venetian doorways, Ottoman wooden balconies and a long sandy beach right next to the centre. Περισσότερα για Ρέθυμνο
