Σχετικά

Two kilometres of golden sand and dunes next to an ancient Minoan harbour.

Komos was a busy port for the palace of Phaistos in Minoan times and the southern end is now a fenced archaeological site. Because of that, building is limited and the long sandy beach with its dunes still feels natural. The water is clean and shallow, and turtles nest here in summer.

Komos is one of the most beautiful long beaches of the Messara bay, with golden sand and low dunes. The Minoan harbour of Kommos, which served Phaistos, lies at the southern end. You can see its walls and paved roads through the fence, and finds from here show trade with Egypt and the Levant.

Because of the archaeological site and the turtle nests, building is limited and the beach feels natural and open. There's a beach bar with sunbeds near the car park, but walk a little and you'll have plenty of space. The sea can have waves in the afternoon. Matala is a short drive to the south.

Heraklion is the heart of Minoan Crete and the island’s busiest region. Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum are the two places almost everyone visits, and they work well together on one day. In the south, the wide Messara plain holds the palace of Phaistos, the Roman ruins of Gortyna and the famous caves above the bay of Matala. Περισσότερα για Ηράκλειο
