A restored eco village in the hills.
Milia is a restored mountain village in the hills south of Kissamos, at 500 m. The village was abandoned in the 20th century, and in the 1990s the old stone houses were restored as an eco-friendly mountain retreat.
The guesthouses have no electricity in the rooms, and the restaurant serves organic food from the farm. It's a peaceful place, surrounded by chestnut forests.
Milia was abandoned in the 20th century, and in the 1990s a group of locals restored the stone houses as an eco-friendly retreat. The rooms have no electricity, but oil lamps and fireplaces. The restaurant serves organic dishes made with produce from the farm, and many people come just for lunch. It's surrounded by chestnut forests and hiking paths.
Kissamos is the wild north-west corner of Crete. The landscape is rugged and dry near the coast and green in the hills, with chestnut villages, olive groves and vineyards. Beaches here are among the most beautiful on the island: Balos, Falasarna and the coves of Gramvousa, reached by boat from Kissamos harbour. The town itself is a relaxed place with Roman mosaics in its museum and tavernas by the sea. The sunsets on the west coast are unforgettable.
The west of Crete is the island at its most dramatic. Chania has the most beautiful Venetian old town on Crete, wrapped around a harbour with a lighthouse and a domed mosque. In the evening the narrow lanes of Splantzia and the old Jewish quarter fill up with tavernas and small bars. Περισσότερα για Χανιά
