Lychnostatis Open Air Museum
Old Cretan village life near Hersonissos.
Μουσεία · Χερσόνησος
A long sandy beach between Hersonissos and Malia, a bit more relaxed and family friendly.
Stalida (or Stalis) is one long sandy beach that blends into Malia, but the vibe is calmer and more family oriented. It is fully organised with sunbeds, cafes and bars, and you will even see a few Cretan palm trees along the shore, which is quite rare on the north coast.
The sand is fine, the water clear and shallow near the shore, and there are sunbeds, watersports and plenty of tavernas. The promenade is lovely for an evening stroll. From Stalida you can walk east along the beach all the way to Malia, or take a short drive up to the mountain villages of Mochos and Krasi, where you find cooler air and traditional food.
Heraklion is the heart of Minoan Crete and the island’s busiest region. Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum are the two places almost everyone visits, and they work well together on one day. In the south, the wide Messara plain holds the palace of Phaistos, the Roman ruins of Gortyna and the famous caves above the bay of Matala. Περισσότερα για Ηράκλειο
