About

A mountain village of olive oil and wine above Malia.

Mochos lies in the hills above Malia and Stalida, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. It has been an agricultural centre since the 14th century and is known for its olive oil and wine.

The village square is lively, with tavernas serving local food. In the evening it's a cool and calm escape from the busy resorts below. The views over the north coast are lovely.

Hersonissos is the busiest resort area of Crete, stretching along the north coast east of Heraklion, with Gouves, Hersonissos, Stalida and Malia. The beaches are long and sandy, with every facility, and the nightlife is lively. Behind the resorts, villages like Koutouloufari, Piskopiano, Mochos and Krasi keep a traditional atmosphere and offer cooler evenings with views. The Minoan palace of Malia, the Cretaquarium and the open-air museum of Lychnostatis are all in the area.
