About

A green valley town.

Neapoli is a town in a valley of olive groves, between Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion. It's known for soumada, a sweet almond drink.

Neapoli lies in the green Mirabello valley, about 12 km west of Agios Nikolaos. It's a traditional Cretan town with narrow streets and a cathedral on the central square. The town was established during the Venetian period. It's known for soumada, a sweet almond drink, and for a small folklore museum. It's a pleasant stop on the road from Heraklion.

Agios Nikolaos is the capital of Lasithi, built around a lake and a harbour on the beautiful Mirabello gulf. The area includes Elounda, Plaka and the island of Spinalonga to the north, and Kritsa, Lato and the Katharo plateau in the hills behind. The coast has many small beaches and calm bays, and the town is lively in the evening with cafes and restaurants around the lake. Boats leave for Spinalonga and trips around the bay.
