Mount Psiloritis (Ida)
Crete's highest mountain at 2,456 m.
Berge & Gipfel · Anogia
A UNESCO geopark around Crete's highest mountain.
The Psiloritis Natural Park, part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, covers the Psiloritis mountain range, from the Messara and the Amari valley to the Kouloukonas range and the Cretan Sea.
The park is known for its geology, rare plants like dittany and wild cyclamen, and historic sites such as the Ideon cave. The E4 path crosses it.
Rethymno sits between the mountains and two seas, and it is the easiest region to combine with the rest of the island. Its old town and Fortezza are among the best preserved on Crete, with Venetian doorways, Ottoman wooden balconies and a long sandy beach right next to the centre. More about Rethymno
