Schluchten · Sfakia
Greece's famous national park around Samaria.
The White Mountains or Samaria National Park was established in 1962 as one of the first national parks in Greece. The Samaria gorge is at its core.
The park includes the high desert of the White Mountains and the Sfakian coast. It's known for its rich flora and fauna, including the Cretan wild goat.
The west of Crete is the island at its most dramatic. Chania has the most beautiful Venetian old town on Crete, wrapped around a harbour with a lighthouse and a domed mosque. In the evening the narrow lanes of Splantzia and the old Jewish quarter fill up with tavernas and small bars. More about Chania
