Σχετικά

Wine tasting and old presses in Peza.

Minos winery, in the village of Peza about 18 km south-east of Heraklion, was founded in 1932 and was the first winery in Crete to bottle its wine. The Peza area is one of the most important wine regions of Crete, known for local grape varieties such as Kotsifali, Mandilari and Vilana.

The winery has a small museum with old wine-making equipment, barrels and presses. You can tour the cellars and taste the wines, as well as other local products such as olive oil and raki.

It's a great stop on a wine tour of the Peza area, which has several other wineries open to visitors.

Archanes-Asterousia stretches from the wine villages south of Heraklion, like Archanes and Peza, down to the wild Asterousia mountains and the Libyan Sea. Mount Giouchtas, which looks like the profile of Zeus, rises above Archanes, and the area is rich in Minoan sites. Further south, the Asterousia hide monasteries, gorges and remote beaches such as Treis Ekklisies and Tsoutsouros. The wineries of the Peza area are open for tastings.

Heraklion is the heart of Minoan Crete and the island’s busiest region. Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum are the two places almost everyone visits, and they work well together on one day. In the south, the wide Messara plain holds the palace of Phaistos, the Roman ruins of Gortyna and the famous caves above the bay of Matala. Περισσότερα για Ηράκλειο
