Σχετικά

The life of Crete's great writer, in Myrtia.

The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum lies in the village of Myrtia, about 20 km south of Heraklion. Kazantzakis, born in Heraklion in 1883, is the most famous Greek writer of the 20th century, author of Zorba the Greek and The Last Temptation of Christ, and was nominated for the Nobel Prize nine times. His father's family came from Myrtia.

The museum was founded in 1983 and moved into a modern building in 2009. It presents his life and work through letters, manuscripts, photos, personal objects and editions of his books in many languages, as well as costumes and set designs from stage productions of his works.

Myrtia itself is a pretty wine village with a nice square. The museum is easy to combine with Archanes and the wineries of the Peza area.

Γύρω από Αρχανών-Αστερουσίων

Heraklion is the heart of Minoan Crete and the island’s busiest region. Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum are the two places almost everyone visits, and they work well together on one day. In the south, the wide Messara plain holds the palace of Phaistos, the Roman ruins of Gortyna and the famous caves above the bay of Matala. Περισσότερα για Ηράκλειο
