Vrachasi Folk House

Άγιος Νικόλαος, Λασίθι

Σχετικά

A traditional home in Vrachasi.

The folk house of Vrachasi is a traditional Cretan home in the village of Vrachasi, showing life in the 19th century.

Vrachasi is a village of a few hundred people with well preserved traditional architecture. Its main square has a wide view over the valley below, where the highway between Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion passes. The folk house shows a traditional Cretan home of the 19th century, with furniture, tools, a loom and a kitchen, giving a picture of how people lived.

Vrachasi is known for its strong independent spirit, and its people took part in many revolts against the Ottomans. The village is perched on a hill with views over the valley, and its square is a nice place for a coffee.

Agios Nikolaos is the capital of Lasithi, built around a lake and a harbour on the beautiful Mirabello gulf. The area includes Elounda, Plaka and the island of Spinalonga to the north, and Kritsa, Lato and the Katharo plateau in the hills behind. The coast has many small beaches and calm bays, and the town is lively in the evening with cafes and restaurants around the lake. Boats leave for Spinalonga and trips around the bay.

Γύρω από Άγιος Νικόλαος

Lasithi, the eastern end of Crete, is quieter and greener than you might expect. Agios Nikolaos wraps around a small lake and a lively harbour, with cafés on the water and beaches within walking distance. Just north, Elounda and Plaka look across to the fortress island of Spinalonga, one of the most moving places on the island. Περισσότερα για Λασίθι
