Boat rental & yacht charters
Rent a small boat for a day of hidden coves, or charter a sailing yacht or catamaran with a skipper.
Explore Crete from the sea
Crete has more than a thousand kilometres of coastline, and many of its quietest beaches, coves and sea caves are easiest to reach by boat. With your own small boat you decide where to stop, swim and have lunch. On a skippered yacht or catamaran someone else does the sailing and knows the best spots for the wind of the day. Below you find boats to rent yourself and sailing trips with a crew, from harbours all around the island: choose a region or a type of trip, compare reviews and book online. Most boats sail from spring to autumn, and the sea is usually calmest in the morning, before the wind picks up.
- Boats without a licence. Small motorboats can often be rented without a boat licence. The rental company explains the boat, the rules and where you can go before you leave.
- With skipper or crew. On a private yacht or catamaran a skipper sails for you, so you can swim, snorkel and relax. Great for families and groups.
- Where to go. Popular trips go to Balos and Gramvousa in the west, the coves around Loutro in the south and Spinalonga in the east.
- Good to know. Wind and waves change the plans: in July and August the meltemi wind can be strong on the north coast. Book early for summer weekends.
