About

The easiest to reach of the Limanakia coves near Hersonissos, calm and very blue.

Gefyri is the most popular of the small Limanakia beaches west of Hersonissos. You recognise it by the walls along the road. It is sandy with lots of sunbeds, and the water is calm and crystal clear. The rocky seabed is exactly what makes the snorkelling so good.

It's a good alternative to the busy resort beaches, and the rocks around the cove are nice for snorkelling. The other Limanakia coves nearby range from organised to almost secret, so it's worth exploring along the coast.

Hersonissos is the busiest resort area of Crete, stretching along the north coast east of Heraklion, with Gouves, Hersonissos, Stalida and Malia. The beaches are long and sandy, with every facility, and the nightlife is lively. Behind the resorts, villages like Koutouloufari, Piskopiano, Mochos and Krasi keep a traditional atmosphere and offer cooler evenings with views. The Minoan palace of Malia, the Cretaquarium and the open-air museum of Lychnostatis are all in the area.
