A long, serene sandy beach just east of Rethymno with shallow water.

Misiria is part of the long coast east of Rethymno. Coarse golden sand, clean shallow water and plenty of sunbeds, cafes and hotels.

Misiria is one of the closest beaches to Rethymno, about 5 km east of the old town, along the long sandy coast. It's popular with families, as the water is shallow for a long way out. When the north wind blows, the sea gets waves and lifeguards put up the red flag, so check before swimming.

The area around Rethymno town mixes a lively Venetian old town with a long sandy coast and quiet villages in the hills. To the east, the beach runs for kilometres past Platanes and Adelianos Kampos, where loggerhead turtles nest in summer. Inland, villages such as Chromonastiri, Myloi, Atsipopoulo and Maroulas have old Venetian houses and tavernas with views. The Arkadi monastery and ancient Eleftherna are less than half an hour away. Try the local snails, staka with eggs and the town's famous pastries.
