Aposelemis Dam
Crete's largest lake, with a drowned village.
Seen, Flüsse & Wasserfälle · Chersonissos
Inland village on the old road from the Hersonissos coast up to the Lasithi plateau.
Potamies sits in the green Aposelemis valley, away from the coastal resorts. Just outside the village stands the church of Panagia Gouverniotissa, once the church of a monastery, with Byzantine wall paintings inside. The Aposelemis reservoir lies a short drive further up the valley.
Heraklion is the heart of Minoan Crete and the island’s busiest region. Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum are the two places almost everyone visits, and they work well together on one day. In the south, the wide Messara plain holds the palace of Phaistos, the Roman ruins of Gortyna and the famous caves above the bay of Matala. More about Heraklion
