Σχετικά

A gorge with pools you wade through.

The Sarakina gorge lies near the village of Mythi, about 6 km from Myrtos. It's one of the most beautiful gorges in eastern Crete, with high walls, pools and waterfalls.

The walk is short and easy, but you'll need to wade through water in places, so bring shoes that can get wet.

The gorge is about 1.5 km long and between 3 and 10 m wide, with walls up to 150 m high. The Kriopotamos river flows through it, so there's water in the gorge for much of the year. You walk, wade and sometimes climb over rocks, and it's great fun in summer. The lower end is easy to reach from the village of Mythi.

Ierapetra is the southernmost town in Europe, and the area around it is known for its greenhouses, which produce vegetables for all of Greece. The coast stretches east to Makrigialos and west to Myrtos, with long beaches, small coves and a warm climate that allows swimming from April to November. Boats leave Ierapetra for Chrissi island, with its cedar forest and white sand. Inland, the Sarakina and Ha gorges and the Selakano forest offer cool escapes.

Lasithi, the eastern end of Crete, is quieter and greener than you might expect. Agios Nikolaos wraps around a small lake and a lively harbour, with cafés on the water and beaches within walking distance. Just north, Elounda and Plaka look across to the fortress island of Spinalonga, one of the most moving places on the island. Περισσότερα για Λασίθι
