About

A big sandy beach at the mouth of the Aposelemis river, with a small wetland full of birds.

Aposelemis is a long sandy beach where the river of the same name ends behind the dunes. Most of it is unorganised, with a beach bar on one end and a watersports base with sunbeds on the other. The wetland around the river mouth attracts herons and migratory birds.

Most of the beach is unorganised, with a beach bar at one end. It's a nice option if you want a big sandy beach without the crowds of the resorts. The river comes from the large Aposelemis reservoir in the hills, the biggest artificial lake in Crete.

Hersonissos is the busiest resort area of Crete, stretching along the north coast east of Heraklion, with Gouves, Hersonissos, Stalida and Malia. The beaches are long and sandy, with every facility, and the nightlife is lively. Behind the resorts, villages like Koutouloufari, Piskopiano, Mochos and Krasi keep a traditional atmosphere and offer cooler evenings with views. The Minoan palace of Malia, the Cretaquarium and the open-air museum of Lychnostatis are all in the area.
