About

Embroidery by the lake.

The Folklore Museum of Agios Nikolaos is housed in a building opposite Lake Voulismeni. It displays embroidery, weaving and traditional costumes.

The museum shows traditional textiles, embroidery, costumes and household objects from eastern Crete. It's small and quick to visit, and its location by the lake makes it an easy stop when walking around town.

The museum is housed in the building that once served as the port police office, opposite the lake. It shows fine examples of embroidery, weaving and woodcarving, as well as costumes and household objects. It's a pleasant short visit.

Agios Nikolaos is the capital of Lasithi, built around a lake and a harbour on the beautiful Mirabello gulf. The area includes Elounda, Plaka and the island of Spinalonga to the north, and Kritsa, Lato and the Katharo plateau in the hills behind. The coast has many small beaches and calm bays, and the town is lively in the evening with cafes and restaurants around the lake. Boats leave for Spinalonga and trips around the bay.
