About

A laid back village on the south coast.

Lentas is a small village on the south coast of Heraklion, about 75 km from the city. Its name comes from the lion-shaped headland that protects the bay. Lentas is one of the warmest and driest places in Crete.

In ancient times it was Levin, the port of Gortyn, with a sanctuary of Asklepios, the god of healing. The ruins of the temple and its mosaics can be seen above the village.

Today Lentas has a relaxed, slightly alternative atmosphere, with tavernas, rooms and small beaches. The naturist beach of Diskos is just to the west.

The ancient sanctuary of Asklepios at Lentas was famous across the island, and people came from far away to be healed. Its mosaic floor and the base of the temple are still visible. Today the village is small and relaxed, with a mix of locals and people who return every year. The coast around Lentas is full of small beaches, and the walk up the lion headland gives great views.
