About

A wild beach at the exit of the Mesosfini gorge, with a huge underwater cave called the Ox's Eye.

Voidomatis sits at the foot of the steep Asterousia mountains, right where the Mesosfini gorge reaches the sea. The gorge is famous with canyoners for its big drops and waterfalls. The beach has coarse golden sand and turquoise water, and on its eastern side there is a big underwater cave, the Eye of the Ox, that gives the beach its name.

Just offshore is a huge underwater cave called the Ox's Eye, which gives the beach its name. The water is very clear and great for snorkelling. There are no facilities, so come prepared.

Archanes-Asterousia stretches from the wine villages south of Heraklion, like Archanes and Peza, down to the wild Asterousia mountains and the Libyan Sea. Mount Giouchtas, which looks like the profile of Zeus, rises above Archanes, and the area is rich in Minoan sites. Further south, the Asterousia hide monasteries, gorges and remote beaches such as Treis Ekklisies and Tsoutsouros. The wineries of the Peza area are open for tastings.
